Kanon is much like the rehashing of eva - for better or for worse these cows are here to stay for as long as these producers can make it stay.

Perhaps 90% of anime is crap, but it doesn't seem to matter to most people. I enjoyed reading what you had to say partly because of that, but it also seemed apt as a satire piece.

(Knocking on your door; you open it up.) Hi. I'm a travelling salesman here to offer you a free notion about how "Anime is 90% Crap."

1: What is anime? This is the answer I've got from Yoshiyuki Tomino, creator of some old Gundam series and many other shows.

"There are lots of people saying "I want to do anime", but anime is not really a work. It is one form of the media. The creators are the ones making the work. Creators can make a series without knowing any anime technology. In other words, "creating a work" and "making an anime" are two completely different things. Depending on the circumstances, creators use a media called anime, media called movies, media called theatre, and media called music. The important thing is the "heart" to create a work. I'll flat out say that a person who has only watched anime in his/her life can not create a work. Most of the time an anime created by anime junkie turns out to be boring."

2: You can trust the directors, creators, producers, and everyone else responsible for a lot of anime series as far as you can throw their collective masses.

Using your parallel; "Evangelic Destiny Seedball One-Z-Half" might be a popular show. Does it mean that it's good? It depends on who you ask. Can it be rewatched? Depends on who you ask. Did it win any official awards outside "the most popular" or "the eater of most wallets?" It might have a chance at the Sundance Film Festival, but that's about it.

3: You know some of these shows are animated in South Korea, right?

Maybe the poor Southern Koreans are crapping in their pants over Northern Korean's dictatorship. So I'm not gonna blame them. I do, however, believe that animation that's done cheaply, untimely, and used repeatedly should be outlawed. It should even be considered torture under the Geneva Convention's Common Article III.

4: Opinions.

Having an opinion is what seperates us humans from the gorillas we evolved from. It's a wonderful human trait that had saved many lives and, if used the wrong way, taken away the same amount of lives. Having an opinion on, say, your favorite anime is like carrying glass bottles of liquid "stuff." If it's big enough, you're clumsy enough, and the question about the "stuff" is answered; then 9 times out of ten, it's going to leave a big mess that will never go away.

What does all this mean?

It means that it's fine to rewatch or rebuy anime. For me, it's all about ubiquity and plot quality. For example, "Evangelic Destiny Seedball One-Z-Half" SUCKED because its director couldn't properly retell the story of a blood-boilling young man who had lost everything and is out for semi-revenge. I'd dare say that said director is a depressed loser fanboy that can't get over the fact that shows either filled with sex or actual plot are way better and less of a complaint-magner than his.

But it seems that I'm running out of time (and space). You have my webpage and e-mail. If you have any questions, be sure to give me a call. Have a good day. :)

The site was having problems for a couple weeks now, and this rant was pretty much the core dump of my mind trying to "empty" it as it's grappling with bigger, fatter, more confusing things I'm currently learning.

I think some people would do well if they just skip the first half.

I didn't read this post. It's long and after 3 paragraphs I have no idea where you're going. A pity because I usually like your thoughts. Maybe headings would help? Maybe my English (third language) is just not sufficient?

BTW a few hours ago the site was timing out again.
